Sidsel Seeberg - At Sea, At Sea

Skrevet 30. jul 2026

Udstilling i ALRUM d. 7-30 august 2026

Is Where Your Heart Is.

ENG
At Sea, At Sea is a solo exhibition by Danish artist Sidsel Seeberg, who earned her degree at the Weissensee Art Academy in Berlin in 2017.

On the walls of ALRUM, Seeberg delves into the classic trope of seascapes with six new paintings that combine her characteristic thin layers of oil paint with the intrinsic transparent and fleeting qualities of water.

At Sea, At Sea is a paraphrase of the title of Iris Murdoch’s novel from 1978, the subtle alteration hinting at the physical act of being at sea, be it literally or figuratively.

07.08 – 30.08 2026
The exhibition is open Thurs-Sun from 2 – 4 PM and by appointment.

Near to the shore, where my view is framed by rising heaps of humpy yellow rock, there is a band of lighter green, icy and pure, less radiant, opaque however, not transparent. We are in the north, and the bright sunshine cannot penetrate the sea. Where the gentle water taps the rocks there is still a surface skin of colour. The cloudless sky is very pale at the indigo horizon which it lightly pencils in with silver. Its blue gains towards the zenith and vibrates there. But the sky looks cold, even the sun looks cold.

-Iris Murdoch: The Sea, The Sea

Landscapes are culture before they are nature – constructs of the imagination projected onto wood and water and rock.

-Simon Schama: Landscape and Memory
